Weighted Blankets are becoming a common household product. Never heard of it? These blankets are essentially your regular blanket stuffed with weights, in order to make it heavier on the body during use.

Parents will do just about ANYTHING to get their kids to go to sleep! Bedtime for kids means rest time for parents. If you have a kid who commonly wakes up in the night, you’re definitely not alone. A recent study shows that 30% of children from 2-7 experience waking up in the night, and then proceed to wake up their parents as well.

Weighted blankets claim to cut that statistic WAY down. There are many who guarantee a reduction in night wakings, and some claim to completely eliminate them.

So far, it seems that these blankets really do work miracles. Especially for kids who have experienced trauma, such as a foster child or adopted child, these blankets have been reported to work wonders. A writer for Forbes Magazine reports: “When word got out among parent friends at my son’s school that weighted blankets were turning moody 10-year-olds into well-rested angels, everyone started tucking in.” The kids almost always react positively to switching to these blankets.

The pressure from a weighted blanket actually affects the brain, causing it to release neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which improve mood and induce a calming effect. This is GREAT for children who have trouble holding still, even when it’s late and they are tired.
