The life of a Foster child is a hard reality, but it’s reality. The confusion, anxiety, and pain that a child in this situation endures are enough to emotionally scar ANYONE, at any age. It’s very likely that these children started out life with no love from anyone. They probably neglected from the moment they were born. It can feel to a foster parent is if there is no hope.

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

All children require a certain level of love from their parents in order to thrive. Foster children’s “love tanks” are essentially completely empty when they come into the arms of a foster parent. This can be the reason the children act out against their foster parents or people around them.

We believe that LOVE from the parents can begin to fill that love tank back up. With a little bit of EXTRA love, you can start to make up for the lost time. Yes, it’s gonna take a LOT of extra work. Extra patience. Extra time.

Just remember, you’re storing up your treasures in heaven rather than on the earth.

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust does not corrupt, and where theives break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where theives do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.”

(Matthew 6:20)

Every time you lose your patience with the child, you bring that love tank back down to 0. Every time you spend the night in their room reading them a book, you bring it up a little. Fall asleep in bed with them, hold them for a few hours. Make up for all the times their birth parents never held them.

This article was a little heavier today, but we hope it encourages you to continue the journey.

Love our kiddos!
